About Us
Since 1995 we have been publishing software for the medical transcription community. Our start came when I was an independent trancriptionist, working in WordPerfect 5.1. I wrote and used macros for myself, chaining them together, to automate the many recurrent tasks. One Saturday another MT saw me working, and asked if she could use my macros. I had to tell her No, for the clients were hard coded into the macros themselves, and adding a new client took me six hours. But that got me thinking about the need for a commercially available product in which the settings were independent of the macros themselves. MedPen 1.0 was born, a comprehensive macro program for WP5.1 and 6.1.
There are quite a few large corporations publishing transcription software. But their market and their interest is in the large medical facility, with deep pockets. They are not interested in producing software for the independent contractor or for the small agency or rural hospital. They want the BIG DOLLAR sale, and recurrent annual service contracts.
We, on the other hand, are a small business and our interest and our love is with the little guy, to put into their hands software (1) to lighten their workday by automating their tasks and, if they wish (2) to enable them to offer their clients services previously only available from the large corporations.
In December 2006 we traveled to Kansas City at the request of a long-time user of our software. Hers is a mid-sized agency, and she had won a contract with an orthopaedic group associated with a major hospital. Previously that group had contracted with the nation's largest provider of transcription services, and they were very dissatisfied. And their needs weren't outrageous: (1) automatically print the files when we receive them, and (2) fax to the CCd physicians.
We installed an additional MTSO edition ($400) in the orthopaedic office, and with that their needs were met. The agency posts the day's work to an FTP site. MTSO in the office automatically pulls those down, prints them, and imports them into MTSO. The agency daily runs Dispatch Folder on the day's work, and each CC'd physician receives their faxes. The largest provider couldn't -- or wouldn't -- accommodate the needs of the orthopaedic physicians. In just a couple hours, it was all set up in MTSO, with the added benefit that reports can now be easily looked up, either in MTSO or from each physician's desktop.
We are a small business with a personal touch, and we intend to stay a small business with a personal touch. As such, we can afford to keep our prices very reasonable, for we don't have huge expenses. We do not have a board of directors or corporate officers. We do not have big advertising bills or huge mortgages to pay. We are a small business with a personal touch and we offer quality software to other small businesses.
If you are independent contractor, or working at home for an agency, or a transcriptionist in a doctor's office, or a small to mid-sized agency, we wrote our software for you.

Best wishes,
Vann Joe Turner
